Madame Tussauds London
While there are other Madame Tussauds museums located all around the world, the museum in London stands out as the original and inaugural establishment, making it the first-ever of its kind. Founded by Marie Tussaud herself. The historic museum’s success has led to the establishment of numerous locations in various cities, all of which offer visitors a delightful experience with incredibly lifelike wax figures of renowned personalities.
In 1761, Marie Grosholtz, who would later become known as Madame Tussaud, was born in Strasbourg. By 1777, she had already modeled the renowned author and philosopher, Francois Voltaire. In 1780, Marie became the art tutor to King Louis XVI’s sister, residing at the Royal Court in Versailles. After departing from France during the French Revolution, Marie embarked on a tour across Europe, displaying her collection of decapitated waxworks. In 1795, she tied the knot with Francois Tussaud, and her unique traveling exhibition evolved into what is now recognized as ‘Madame Tussauds’. Following her husband’s departure, she found a permanent home in London, where she established her waxworks business.
